Presentation will provide an overview of Abdullah Qodiriy’s O’tkan Kunlar and its translation into English. We will discuss the political implications of the novel when initially published in 1926, post-1938, and under current reforms in Uzbekistan today.
Mark Reese began his career in Central Asia in the U.S. Peace Corps, Uzbekistan 1994-1996. He has held a number of positions as a translator and advisor to the U.S. DOD, as well as founding Director for the Center for Regional Studies, United States Naval Academy. Currently, he heads the Muloqot Cultural Engagement Program, an initiative that seeks to further Uzbek language and literature among readerships worldwide.
