The Center for Russia, East Europe, and Central Asia (CREECA) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison is running a second-round Foreign Language & Area Studies (FLAS) summer fellowship competition exclusively for study at CESSI. Eligible undergraduate and graduate applicants must have completed an application to the Central Eurasian Studies Summer Institute by April 1, 2021, the institute’s application deadline.
NEW Deadline to apply: Monday, May 10, 2021.
FLAS Fellowships cover full tuition at CESSI and provide a stipend of $2,500 to cover living expenses for the summer. Application materials (letters of recommendation, transcripts) previously submitted to CESSI do not need to be resubmitted. CESSI Personal Statements may be adapted to answer the FLAS Fellowship essay questions.
Please Note: Eligibility requirements for this competition have been expanded. Applicants do NOT need to be enrolled at an academic institution in Fall 2021 to be eligible for FLAS. Accordingly, this FLAS competition is open to all U.S. citizens and permanent residents.
Note: Undergraduate students can only use the fellowship to study a language at the intermediate or advanced level.
Please contact Sarah Linkert (email@example.com), the CREECA FLAS coordinator and CESSI program coordinator, for questions about this opportunity.
